چکیده

Background Perforation is the second most frequent complication of colonic cancer (c.c.). It represents 0.8%–3.7% of all c.c. surgically treated and 10%–26% of those operated on in emergency. The resection rate of c.c. perforations is increased in the last decade reaching 95% or more. Hinchey classification, Mannheim Peritonitis Index (M.P.I.) (5) and Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (Apache II) are employed to evaluate the severity of peritonitis and the performance status of the patients.

Malignant Colonic Stricture with Cecal Perforation: A Case Report and A Review of Literature

A 79-year-old Saudi female with cecal perforation as a result of colonic malignant stricture is presented. This was treated by emergency subtotal colectomy and ileo-colic anastomosis with satisfactory result. This case reinforces the fact that patients above the age of forty with gastrointestinal symptoms require full work-up to rule out malignancy. Also it shows that abdominal ultrasound alone...

[A case of successful endoscopic clipping for iatrogenic colon perforation induced by peritoneal catheter insertion].

Advanced cancer patients with refractory ascites often do not respond to conventional treatments including dietary sodium restriction, diuretics, and repeated large volume paracentesis. In these patients, continuous peritoneal drainage by an indwelling catheter may be an effective option for managing refractory ascites with a relative low complication rate. Peritoneal catheter-induced complicat...

Sigmoid Perforation during CT Colonography in a Patient with an Inguinal Hernia and Concomitant Finding of a Right-Sided Colon Cancer

The use of computed tomography colonography or virtual colonography (VC) is gaining acceptance as a screening modality for colon cancer. A comprehensive understanding of VC complications is limited. We report a case of colon perforation in a patient where a colon cancer was diagnosed using VC colonography with manual insufflation. A 79-year-old patient underwent a VC after a failed screening op...

Colonic perforation during barium enema in a patient without known colonic disease: a case report

The barium enema is a safe and accurate diagnostic study of the colon but, in rare cases, causes complications, such as colonic perforation. A colon weakened by iatrogenic trauma due to the enema tip and/or retention balloon, or by disease is more likely to perforate during an enema than is a normal healthy bowel. Rarely the colon may burst due to excessive transmural pressure alone. We report ...
